Sailing instills character and independence while providing real-world educational opportunities for young sailors. Learning to sail a boat well means being able to independently problem-solve, multi-task, be strategic, level-headed, and competitive all at the same time! Learning to win or lose with grace and good sportsmanship is integral to the sport of sailing – everyone is at the mercy of the wind and even good sailors experience and learn from disappointment. Reinforcing this intellectual, emotional, and even spiritual education of all of our sailors is our goal.

In 2017, Asheville Sailing Club developed the opportunity, through a generous grant from Buncombe County Parks & Recreation, matching funds, and sponsorships, to establish the Asheville Youth Sailing program. The program, run entirely by volunteers from the Asheville Sailing Club, begins with basic instruction on and off the water.

Each sailor is assigned a boat and gear to use and care for throughout the duration of the summer program. Safe and friendly instruction will push the sailors to try this new sport and build the skills and confidence they need to independently sail a small dinghy on their own.

There are sponsorship opportunities on twelve boats being used in the youth program and several fundraising events.

Your company’s logo will be on display providing tremendous exposure to all those at Lake Julian Park and on Social Media – especially during our mid-summer youth regatta, with hundreds in attendance to cheer the sailors on!
